Highlights of Salamis
Salamis is an ancient city kingdom 6km north of the city of Famagusta. Tradition states that is was founded after the Trojan war by Teucer, son of Telemon although the earliest archaeological finds go back to the bronze age. The city had a turbulent history and was at times claimed by Assyrians, Greeks, Persians and Romans. During the classical period it was one of the most opulent cities on the island.
Excavations at the site have unearthed a 3km roman road, a baths house, a well preserved theatre a gymnasium and numerous columns and dwellings.
