Tour DescriptionThis tour is a fascinating exploration of the Famagusta region, with visits to both sides of the "Green Line". The day starts with meeting locals who will give us interesting accounts of the troubles that sparked the Cyprus divide.
You’ll then cross the border into the Turkish-occupied North where we’ll drive alongside the fenced-off ghost town stopping on the way for a closer look into the lost city. This was once one of the most glamourous beach resorts in the Med, but has been left abandoned since the invasion in 1974. We’ll continue to the sandy shores of the Famagusta beach where the closed-off area ends to peek at the derelict hotels and empty buildings. Here we’ll also stop for a traditional coffee with fantastic views of the Ghost Town and a chance to discuss the story of the island. A visit to the historic old town center of Famagusta inside the Venetian walls will follow, with the opportunity to see the St. Nicholas Cathedral that now operates as a mosque. We then head back across the border to enjoy an authentic meze lunch – a spread of delicious Cypriot dishes. We’ll end the day with a wine tasting that will include the famous Cyprus Commandaria before returning to your accommodation. If you see the Book Now button below you can book this tour online. This is a full day tour, around 7.5 hours of touring around the Famagusta region plus journey time from/to your accommodation. It is available any day, all year round, excluding national holidays, subject to availability. When there is high demand we may offer you an alternative date if all our guides are already booked on tours. Please book at least 2 days in advance. For last minute bookings, please contact us and we will do our best to book you on this tour.
Departure Points / Pick up locations
This tour is available from Ayia Napa, Protaras, Larnaca, Limassol and Nicosia areas. Pick up from your hotel / apartment is included. Pick up times start around 08.30 - 09.00am from Ayia Napa/Protaras and 07.45 - 08.00 from Larnaca, Limassol and Nicosia. Your exact pick up time will be noted on your email confirmation.
