Tour DescriptionThis private walking tour with a personal guide will introduce you to the semi-mountainous area of rural Cyprus including the quaint traditional village of Kakopetria and one of the oldest and most decorated churches on Cyprus - Agios Nicolas tis Stegis.
The medieval village of Kakopetria has unique architecture. Using stones of the area together with mud and straw sun-dried bricks, and tiled roofs, the narrow alleys are lined with unusual dwellings and buildings. There are two rushing streams which run through the village adding to it's atmosphere and tranquility. We will explore the village, visit the museum and there is the opportunity to have a snack or lunch at this point. We will then follow walking trails along one of the stream and can take in a longer walking route from the village if desired. The next stop is the UNESCO church of Agios Nicolas tis Stegis which is all that remains of a 1000 year old monastery site. The walls of the church are covered in vividly painted colourful frescoes dating back centuries. We spend around 30 minutes at the church. We can then choose to follow a choice of walking routes depending on the tour duration you choose. The 8 hour tour would have around 4 hours walking from this point, or for an extended tour we can take the Artemis Trail in the Troodos mountains which is around 7km long. This would take us into a 10 hour tour. Both are highly recommended for those who want to experience the island's rich cultural heritage and outstanding natural beauty. This is a small group private tour for 1-6 people with a professional guide. As it is a private tour the itinerary has some flexibility if you wish to spend longer at a stop to walk or discover additional sights. Tour Schedule
This is a full day tour, around 8-10 hours of touring around the Troodos region including journey time from/to your accommodation. It is available any day, all year round, excluding national holidays, subject to availability. When there is high demand we may offer you an alternative date if all our guides are already booked on tours. Please book at least 3 days in advance. For last minute bookings, please contact us and we will do our best to book you on this tour.
Departure Points / Pick up locations
This tour is available from Ayia Napa, Protaras and Larnaca, Limassol Nicosia and Paphos with pick up from accommodation in these areas. Pick up times will be around 09.00am. You will be transported to the walk starting point. At the end of the walk you will be returned back to your accommodation. If you are arriving from another area we can arrange for you to join the walk at a convenient meeting point.
