Tour Description
This unique private sightseeing tour will show you the best of the Larnaca district. We start our day on the outskirts of Larnaca at the Oroklini lake and salt marsh where there is a wealth of birdlife and wildlife, often including flamingoes and other migratory birds. This peaceful area is a real contrast to the sun-bleached hills above and we can take a short nature walk by the lake.
We then continue to the old town of Larnaca where you have free time to explore. Visit the medieval castle, or stroll along the palm lined Finikoudes Promenade. Saint Lazarus church is in the heart of the old town and is reputed to be built on top of the tomb where Lazarus was buried for the second time after fleeing to Cyprus following threats to his life in Judea. The church was built in the late 9th or early 10th century and has undergone many changes, with bits added on or removed according to which religion was in force in Cyprus at the time.
From here we stop for photo's at the Salt Lake and the famous Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque on the lake, before heading on to Kiti to visit Angeloktisti Chapel with it's fantastically well preserved mosaics from the late 6th century. We can then cool off with a short swim stop at the often deserted and windswept Mazotos coastline.
Our final stop of the day is the stone built village of Tochni, which is in the low foothills of the mountains and is a popular Agro tourism destination. Wander the cobbled streets and admire the wonderful architecture with intricate stonework and traditional old houses.
