Open Top Red Bus Divided Line Villages Tour from Ayia Napa Protaras

This half day tour by Open Top bus is a great way to see more of the Famagusta "Red Soil" villages, outside of Ayia Napa and Protaras. Travel along the Green Line, view abandoned villages and the no mans land in between. This tour is a mix of sightseeing, history and a fun day out. ​

Tour Description

This half day morning excursion is a fascinating tour for all ages. It runs in a loop route from Protaras, through Ayia Napa and along the coast, before heading inland. Discover the history, customs and landscape of the Famagusta district. Divided by the "Green Line" since 1974, view firsthand the devastation to local communities living alongside the border. 

We travel through "red soil" farming villages where centuries old churches and sleepy coffee shops sit alongside modern stores. Where local men still play Tavli outside the Kafenio and the bustle of the tourist resorts seems a million miles away. View the abandoned village of Achna, the Turkish military guards along the border and the eerie silence of the buffer zone. 

View the ghost town of Varosha from the Famagusta View Point. Once one of the biggest and trendiest holiday resorts in the Mediterranean, now left to ruins since 1974 when it's inhabitants fled in the wake of the invading Turkish forces.  ​

The loop route then goes back through Protaras on to Ayia Napa, so it's also a great way to see what the other holiday resorts  along the coast are like.
