Tours and Excursions to Bellapais Abbey from Ayia Napa
Bellapais Abbey is the ruin of a monastery built in the 13th century by Canons who had fled Jerusalem. It was at that time very wealthy and attracted nobles and royals but fell into disgrace and notoriety before it's demise. It is located 5 kilometres from Kyrenia on the slopes of the mountains 220 metres above sea levels, affording it exceptional views of the town and coastline.
The church and cloisters are in very good condition with many of the original gothic features preserved. The Abbey has a sense of calm and is at home with the nature which has reclaimed the site. The Abbey also contains of a small museum and a cafe and often serves as a venue for open air concerts, performances and lectures.
