Tours and Excursions to Kolossi Castle from Ayia Napa
Kolossi Castle is located around 14km west of the city of Limassol on the southern coast of Cyprus. It was a major Crusader stronghold during the 1300's and has a long and interesting history. It is thought that the original castle was built by the Frankish around 1210. The castle was then taken by the Knights Templar in 1306 but returned to the Knights of the Order of St John of Jerusalem (Hospitallers) in 1313. They replaced the original structure with the existing castle in the mid 1400's.
Kolossi Castle held great strategic importance in the Eastern Mediterranean. One of Cyprus's main exports during this time was sugar and the castle held large facilities for processing of the local sugarcane.
